Dr. Giacomoni has over ten years of experience conducting forensic evaluations across a variety of matters. Although he currently focuses on criminal matters and civil litigation involving injuries he has previously provided evaluations related to such matters as guardianship, civil commitments, child custody, and parenting evaluations. Dr. Giacomoni has conducted forensic evaluations in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, having been qualified as an expert at the state and federal levels. Additionally, Dr. Giacomoni has worked several cases that have received local, state, and national attention.
Dr. Giacomoni has a particular specialization and expertise conducting court evaluations in which there is a question of trauma. During such evaluations he examines whether there is the presence of a trauma related disorder (e.g., PTSD), whether it was relevant to the alleged events, and the extent to which posttraumatic symptoms were related to the alleged events. Such cases have involved evaluating: combat veterans, victims of domestic violence, victims of sexual abuse and sexual assault, former gang members, victims police violence, refugees, and motor vehicle accidents. He has also worked multiple cases involving a parent charged in the death of a child.
In his evaluations Dr. Giacomoni calls upon a broad knowledge of general psychology. In so doing he considers developmental experiences, neurobiological factors, and psychosocial dynamics that could be relevant to a particular legal matter. He then clearly explains in his report how and why those factors are relevant to the given case before the court.
